The 'Next Step'
Starting a new business is always exciting and fun, your belief in yourself and what you have chosen to do will motivate and provide you with the confidence to build your own business. You have now entered the arena of the entrepreneur.
Ahh; your business has now started and going well, with the flow of clients you put together, a few procedures that seem to work for you, and at this stage these are safely stored into your mind. The mobile phone is like music to your ears as the leads and marketing are paying off. Reaching the second half of the year and you are doing incredibly well as your database continues to grow.
You are now in a position where you need to include extra customer service, book keeping, invoices and other administration tasks to your job description; the telephone ring doesn’t seem to have that music attached to it anymore, and the number of invoices outstanding starts to have an effect on the cash flow and yesterday you realised you forgot to contact a referral due to double booking appointments on that day; your business starts to manage your time and you question your reasoning for wanting your own business - Sound Familiar?
Well I can add comfort by saying you are not alone, however at this stage we do keep going, knowing things have to change but don’t quite know how to balance our time to change it. I believe the reason we don’t quite know how to make these changes is more along the lines of - can we manage the risk needed to make the changes?
This is what I call the ‘Next Step’, and many business owners are not prepared to take this step because it involves building a real business that works for you. The risk involved is less cash flow into your pocket or even an overdraft; but my question to you is… Can your business survive if you are not prepared to grow it, can your business survive if you become unreliable because you are prepared to grow it, and can your business survive if you were not working in it?
Today 67% of businesses are home based. This means you do have support, so look for the right support which will take your business into the next step. Remember what gave you the motivation to begin your business – now own this role and start having fun. Think of all the tasks that you procrastinate in doing ie book keepings, administration, telephones, debt collecting - now outsource them!
The ‘Next Step’ should not a risk; but an exciting part of your growth and needs to be included in the set up stages. The earlier you plan for your ‘Next Step’ the easier and less risky it will seem. Remember if you are a true entrepreneur, and there are only 9% of us around; keep doing what you do best, and let others do the rest!
